Here's some quick and simple guidelines for all the people on the site who want to edit someone's work or want their work to be edited.
For Editors:
You can set up an 'agency' (Example: "Myst's Editing Agency") but it might be a little difficult to edit more than one story at a time, so use this term sparingly.
Editing is fun and rewarding, but don't think it's a joke - real people want real stories to be edited, and they're putting their trust with you to do it!
Always be kind and supportive - everybody tries their hardest to write a great piece of work, but it's more difficult for some and easy for others.
Specify the work you're up to editing (Example: "Only edits multi-chapters.") so people know when to come to you and when not to.
For Writers:
If you ask for your work to be edited, you are subject to constructive criticism, and don't take it personally if you get corrected.
Always provide a link and a short summary for the editor to look at before they begin to read! It's very helpful and the editor will know immediately what kind of story they're going to read.
Be kind to the editors! They try their hardest to make your story better, and don't ask for anything in return.
When you're ready for an editor, put their name in the 'Editor:' spot at the beginning of your story. This gives the editor credit, and will help the reader's understanding of your story.
If there's a popular editor you really want, you can ask them to edit your story before you've even begun writing, but it's best to wait until your story is at least accepted before asking for editors.
So, now you can go have fun editing or being edited!
